Billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeje Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, has disowned a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr Olukoya Ogungbeje, saying that he has no hand in suits filed by him against the police to secure his release.

Evans, who spoke during an interview with Channels TV on Sunday, claimed that he did not liaise with any lawyer or any party to file the suit on his behalf.

Evans had reportedly filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit at the Federal High Court in Lagos on June 28, asking the court to compel the police to release him.

In the ex parte application with reference number FHC/L/CS/1012/2017, Evans was said to have asked the court to direct the police to either charge him to court immediately or release him from custody unconditionally.

He reportedly filed another suit against the inspector general of police and three other parties, demanding N300million as general and exemplary damages against the police for “illegal detention and unconstitutional media trial”.

But the kidnap kingpin has now dissociated himself from the lawsuits filed by Ogungbeje, claiming that the lawsuits were an attempt by some people to put him in more trouble.

He was quoted as saying that, “I have no hand in any case filed against the police and I did not speak with any lawyer or my father to fill a case on my behalf.

“All I will say is that they should temper justice with mercy.”

He was further quoted as saying that if he is released by the police, he would not leave detention because his kidnap victims would kill him.
