Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday distanced himself from any social media account purportedly operated by him.

This was in reaction to a twitter account, @newsvergeonline which yesterday, posted a tweet, claiming that the former president had described the director of media and publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, PDPPCO, Femi Fani-Kayode, as a “democracy wrecker.”

Our findings revealed that the tweet account with the name, Olusegun A. Obasanjo posted the story with the caption: “Fani-Kayode is a democracy wrecker, who’s very fluent in stupidity. Give him food, and he will sing and do “shoki” dance for you.”

But Obasanjo dismissed the account, declaring that all his previous accounts on either Facebook or Twitter had long been de-activated.

When approached by newsmen on the owner of the twitter account, the former president said, “I don’t know where this comes from. I don’t have any account on either the Facebook or Twitter again. Go and block it.”

Obasanjo cautioned those using his name to operate illegal social media accounts to desist from the practice, warning that security agencies had been placed on the alert to fish out the perpetrators.

“Let me say that, nemesis will catch up with anyone doing this. It is illegal and criminal. If I have to pass any message to the good people of Nigeria, I know how to go about it with no controversy,” he said.

As at the time of writing this report, the impostor had posted about 20 messages, while Obasanjo was playing the traditional “AYO” with his friends at his Hilltop Mansion in Abeokuta.
