Former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako has reiterated his innocence over allegations of money laundering leveled against him noting that he did not steal a dime from the purse of the state while his tenure lasted.

Nyako who made the revelation during a session with journalists shortly after his arrival in the state following his self exile, noted that he used the resources of the state judiciously, frugally and prudently adding that the feat led to serious developmental strides in the state.

He noted that he did not go on self exile due to the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as he said he was not afraid of honouring the invitation since he has no skeleton in his cupboard but he deemed it right to leave the country following two attempts on his life.

“I must reiterate here that I did not leave this country for the fear of EFCC but I left for the safety of my dear life following two failed attempts to get me assassinated,” he said.

When asked whether some of his subordinates were responsible for the theft of public funds? Nyako said, “I can only speak for myself but I must tell you I did not steal a dime from Adamawa State.

“I don’t have a single dollar outside Nigeria. Apart from the single house I have overseas, I have not even a plot of land anywhere outside Nigeria.

“If I have stolen money, I would have stashed them away in foreign vaults,” he said.

Nyako who expressed confidence in the ability of president Muhammadu Buhari to turn around the fortunes of Nigeria noted that he has been vindicated as even International Organisations have started pointing accusing fingers on the service chiefs for committing war crimes.

Meanwhile, wild jubilation has greeted the arrival of the former governor of Adamawa State, Admiral Murtala Nyako, to Yola.

Nyako who arrived Yola International Airport Saturday was received by thousands of his supporters that came from across the state to welcome him.
