Mr. Adewale Tinubu, Group Chief Executive of Oando PLC, delivered a thought-provoking keynote address titled “The Winning Oil & Gas Industry Strategy” at the 3rd Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo. Held at the Guyana Marriott Hotel in Georgetown from February 19 to 22, the conference convened industry leaders and stakeholders to explore transformative strategies in the energy sector under the theme “Fueling Transformation and Modernization.”

Mr. Tinubu’s address provided strategic insights into navigating the complexities of the oil and gas industry, emphasizing innovative approaches for long-term sustainability and profitability. Drawing from Oando’s extensive experience in Nigeria’s mature oil sector, he highlighted parallels between Nigeria and Guyana’s oil industries, offering valuable lessons and solutions for Guyana’s burgeoning energy sector.

The keynote address covered a spectrum of challenges, including the impact of COVID-19, geopolitical tensions, operational security threats, and regulatory frameworks. Mr. Tinubu emphasized the importance of proactive planning, international cooperation, and strategic investments in infrastructure to address these challenges effectively.

Crucial points essential to Guyana’s oil and gas sector development were highlighted, including creating an enabling environment, establishing alternative financing institutions, and maximizing opportunities during peak oil prices. Mr. Tinubu advocated for empowering national companies, policy reforms, national infrastructure development, and diversification of energy sources to ensure long-term resilience.
