A group of armed men, believed to be kidnappers, launched a violent invasion on the residence of the former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, on Saturday night, leaving three security guards severely injured.

Around 7:50 p.m., the suspected kidnappers stormed Maku’s residence in Ola, Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, firing gunshots into the air. They forcefully entered the premises after repeatedly banging on the gate and realizing that no one would open it for them.

One of the wounded security guards recounted the harrowing incident, stating that the attackers, who spoke in the Hausa language, displayed aggressive behavior. Due to their suspicion of the strangers, the security team refused to open the gate, which then prompted the assailants to resort to violence. The attackers shot at the guards and eventually scaled the fence to gain entry, resulting in injuries during the confrontation.

Labaran Maku, the former Minister of Information, expressed his distress over the incident, revealing that this was the third time in a month that bandits had targeted his residence. In a previous attack, his father’s compound in Wakama was invaded, leading to the kidnapping of three of his siblings. Furthermore, another unfortunate event saw two of his elder brother’s children murdered in their home.

Maku emphasized that the situation illustrated the dire state of security in the region. Fortunately, the timely response of the Army and police, who were stationed in Akwanga, prompted the assailants to flee into the bush upon sighting the security forces.
