Guaranty Trust Bank has partnered with Etisalat Nigeria to allow Nigerians open bank accounts called GTeasysavers by dialing a USSD code.

The bank announced this through a tweet posted today,

To open the account, Etisalat subscribers only have to dial *737*0# and follow the prompt. The user will subsequently get a ten digit account number. Alternatively, users can also use their Etisalat phone number as their account number in GTBank branches, Etisalat Experience centres and GTExpress locations.

The account offers the same services as accounts opened in banking halls. Users will be able to deposit, withdraw, transfer money and purchase airtime.

This means, subscribers on the Etisalat network will be able to open a bank account with Guaranty trust bank without the usual hassle that comes with going into banking halls to open an account.

This is not the first time a bank is partnering with a telco to provide a similar service. In 2014, MTN Nigeria launched a similar service with Diamond bank to allow MTN subscribers open an account with the bank by dialing a USSD code.
