Google Reveals Nigeria’s Year in Search 2023

Google has unveiled its annual Year in Search for Nigeria, providing insights into the most popular searches and trending topics that captured the attention of Nigerians throughout the year.

The Year in Search highlights various categories, including people, musicians, movies, questions, and more, offering a comprehensive overview of the nation’s interests and curiosities.

In the realm of personalities, Moyo Lawal, Peter Obi, and Oladipupo Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips, emerged as the top trending individuals in Nigeria for 2023.

The list showcases the diverse areas that intrigued Nigerians, ranging from entertainment to politics.

The music scene saw Asake claiming the top spot in the trending musicians category, closely followed by Khaid and Shallipopi.

Asake’s hit song “Lonely at the Top” also took the lead as the most searched song of the year, reflecting Nigerians’ keen interest in the music industry.

Nigerians demonstrated a significant interest in entertainment, with “Gangs of Lagos,” “Shanty town,” and “Soso lyrics” securing top positions in the movies, video series, and lyrics categories, respectively. The results underscore the nation’s passion for diverse forms of entertainment.

In the remembrance category, singer Mohbad, Yoruba actor Murphy Alabi, and actor-film producer Saint Obi, all of whom passed away in 2023, topped the search list for loss. Additionally, Mohbad claimed the title of the most searched Nigerian news topic in 2023.

The Year in Search also shed light on the country’s concerns about political and economic affairs, as reflected in top-searched questions like “Who is the winner of the 2023 presidential election?” and “What is fuel subsidy?” This indicates how Nigerians turned to Google Search to gain insights into current events and topics of national importance.
