Google, the tech giant renowned for its groundbreaking AI models, has announced a significant update to its AI chatbot, formerly known as Bard, which will now be called Gemini.

Previously offered as a free tool, Gemini is now evolving with the introduction of Gemini Advanced, a premium plan tailored to provide users with enhanced capabilities.

The advanced version will be initially available in English across more than 150 countries and territories.

In addition to the name change and the introduction of Gemini Advanced, Google is also rolling out a new Gemini app for Android users, with plans to integrate it into the Google app on iOS.

Users on Android will have the option to replace their Google Assistant with Gemini, offering a seamless AI-powered experience.

In an official statement released on Thursday, Google highlighted the evolution of its AI chatbot:

“Bard has served as a gateway for users to experience our most advanced AI models directly. To reflect the technological advancements at its core, Bard will now be known as Gemini. Available in 40 languages on the web, Gemini is also debuting on Android and iOS devices through a dedicated Gemini app and integration into the Google app.

“The introduction of Gemini Advanced marks a significant milestone, offering an experience far superior in reasoning, instructional guidance, coding support, and creative collaboration. Whether acting as a personalized tutor or a creative partner, Gemini Advanced empowers users to achieve their goals effectively.

“Access to Gemini Advanced is facilitated through subscription to the new Google One AI Premium plan, consolidating Google’s AI features into a single, comprehensive offering. This premium plan builds upon the popular Google One service, offering expanded storage and exclusive product features.”

Google emphasized the widespread adoption of its AI features, with over 1 million users leveraging tools like Help Me Write powered by Duet AI.

The integration of Gemini for Workspace will enhance productivity and creativity, expanding its functionality across Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet.

The move comes amid intensifying competition in the AI sector, notably with OpenAI’s unveiling of GPT-4 Turbo, a formidable rival to Google’s Gemini.

However, Google remains at the forefront with its innovative approach, evident in the recent launch of Gemini Ultra, Gemini Pro, and Gemini Nano, catering to diverse user needs across various platforms.
