Twenty-six-year-old Chimeka Woke on Friday became the owner of a three-bedroom house in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, courtesy of digital solutions provider Globacom.

Woke, who had been “squatting” in a Boys’ Quarters in his parents’ compound, was presented with the keys to the property by Glo officials after emerging as the winner of a draw.

Woke said he was still trying to figure out how to raise money to move into an apartment with his wife and 11-month-old child when he received a call from Glo officials informing him that his number had been picked in an electronic draw as the winner of a three-bedroom house.

He said he abandoned his father, who was receiving medical treatment, to rush to the Glo office and confirm the news.

“I literally abandoned my dad and ran to the Glo office on Aba road just to be sure I heard well”, he said, adding that it sounded too good to be true for someone staying in his father’s Boys’ Quarters to be called and told he had just won a house.

“I had been thinking in the last few weeks on how to mobilize funds to rent an apartment to move into with my wife and daughter. It was as if God and Globacom were monitoring me”, he disclosed, and thanked Globacom for coming to his rescue and for launching such a massive customer-reward initiative.

The Ahoada Local Government Chairman, Barrister Ben Eke, who was at the event said Globacom had established a reputation for giving back to society. “For giving people opportunity to own a house, I must congratulate you. I am going to be your ambassador in propagating your good works”, he said. Similarly, His Royal Highness, Eze (Dr) Anugbom Onuhua, Eze Orlu Ekpodota 1, said “for what Globacom has done today, I am going to be an ambassador of the company, telling people what you are doing”.

Mr Walson Dambo, the Head of Licensing and Operations at the Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC), said the commission has been following the promo to ensure compliance and commended Globacom for its transparency and commitment to the success of the promo.
