The Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has been shut down by the school management after a violent protest by students of the institution which left five vehicles burnt, seven vandalized and a church attacked.

According to a press statement issued by the management, students are expected to vacate the school before 6PM on Thursday and proceed on a week mid-semester break

The protest is reported to be as a result of the alleged insensitivity of the school management and the police over alleged incessant attacks by hoodlums at hostels.

During the protest, which turned violent, two policemen were said to have been injured while a student was said to have been shot but this was denied by the police

Meanwhile about 34 persons are said to have been arrested by the police in connection with incident, the Public Relations Officer, Mr Oyeyemi Abimbola, however said that those found culpable would be made to face the music

Effort to get the institution’s reaction proved futile as the school was virtually empty while offices were under lock and key.
