Annie Okonkwo, a former senator who represented Anambra Central, has sadly passed away at the age of 63.

Okonkwo had been battling cancer for several months before succumbing to the illness.

His passing was announced by Uche Ekwunife, the current senator representing Anambra central, during a session on the floor of the Senate on Thursday.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan paid tribute to the late Okonkwo, describing him as a team player and a “very cheerful person.”

Lawan expressed his condolences on behalf of the Senate, emphasizing the positive impact Okonkwo had made during his time in office.

“I served with Senator Annie Okonkwo in the sixth Senate. I knew him very well. He was a complete gentleman, a team player, and a very nice, cheerful person. Once a senator, always a senator. We pray to Almighty God for the repose of his soul,” Lawan stated.

During his tenure in the upper legislative chamber from 2007 to 2011, Okonkwo was actively involved in various committees, demonstrating his dedication to public service.

He served on the committees on upstream petroleum resources, police affairs, environment, and agriculture.
