Former Governor Gabriel Suswam Withdraws N10bn Suit Against FG

A Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the N10 billion suit by ex-Benue state governor Gabriel Suswam contesting his long detention by Nigeria the Department of State Services (DSS).


 

The ex-governor had, through his lawyer, Joseph Daudu (SAN), sued the DSS, its Director-General, Lawal Daura, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami for N10bn for violating his fundamental human rights.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole on Wednesday struck out the suit after counsel to Suswam applied to withdraw it.

Daudu informed the court that Suswan has been released by the DSS and is currently under instruction by doctors to be on bed rest.

Suswam’s trial on fresh criminal charges is expected to begin on Thursday.

The governor was released early on Sunday by the DSS after 70 days in detention.

He was arrested after a search of his home at Number 44, Aguiyi Ironsi way, Maitama-Abuja by operatives of the DSS. The service said it found a large cache of arms and ammunition.

Also found were twenty-one Certificates of Occupancy, one Offer of Statutory Right of Occupancy, twenty-three luxury designer watches, and forty-five keys to various exotic cars.
