On Thursday, FirstBank hosted its SMEConnect webinar themed, “Leveraging Social Media for Business Success: Best Practices and Strategies for Building Your Brand and Growing Your Audience” in Lagos, where experts in digital marketing gave valuable advice to Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (SMEs) on how to promote and sustain the viability of their businesses through social media.

The founder of Digital Marketing Skill Institute, Mr. Tobi Asehinde, urged business owners to build a strong and credible brand on social media that people can trust to grow their audience.

He highlighted four types of credibility that SMEs can leverage, including presumed credibility, reputed credibility (third-party reference), surface credibility (using quality pictures to engage people), and earned credibility.

Mr. Asehinde also advised business owners to collaborate with other social media platforms like Instagram live to showcase their faces or products, which would help boost their business and gain trust from potential customers.

Mrs. Chinwe Bode-Akinwande, Head of Digital Marketing at Firstbank, emphasized the importance of creating quality content that would attract customers to their brand. She advised SMEs to define their target audience, determine their interests and the type of content they consume, and create a content marketing objective to achieve their desired goals.

Mrs. Bode-Akinwande also encouraged SMEs to create a content calendar to plan what to publish and use content scoring to stay relevant and have a voice in their space.

Mr. Michael Olanrewaju, Head of Growth at Cashaam, a social commerce platform and marketplace for micro-entrepreneurs, shared valuable insights on how SMEs could effectively run Facebook Ads on WhatsApp and Amazon.

Mr. Olanrewaju stressed the importance of targeting the ideal customer, optimizing adverts for conversion, and using campaign budget optimization to increase their skills and grow their business.
