The wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has appealed to traditional rulers in Ondo State to join efforts in eradicating female genital mutilation (FGM), Hepatitis B, and other diseases affecting women, okay.ng reports.

Speaking during a meeting with the Ondo State Council of Obas in Akure on Thursday, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the critical role monarchs play in tackling health challenges.

“Ending female genital mutilation is also one of our key priorities. It is a harmful and outdated tradition built on myths. It does not stop promiscuity, as some believe. Instead, it destroys the lives of young girls,” she stated.

As part of her Renewed Hope Initiative, the First Lady launched the South-West leg of the campaign, announcing plans to distribute at least 10,000 professional kits—including Crocs and scrubs—to nurses and midwives in the region. Additionally, she introduced the Flow with Confidence menstrual hygiene campaign, aiming to provide 10,000 sanitary pads to young girls in each state, focusing on rural communities.

Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye, Chairman of the State Council of Obas, represented by the Deji of Akure, praised Mrs. Tinubu’s efforts and pledged the traditional institution’s prayers and support. “We may not be able to offer financial help, but our prayers will never cease for the success of President Tinubu’s administration,” he said, also commending the First Lady’s loyalty to her husband and his administration.
