Newly appointed Minister of Education says this present administration will confront all problems that have affected the Nigeria education sector.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu said this in Abuja during his first meeting with top officials of the Federal Ministry of Education

He attributed the rot in the education sector to funding, access to education and corruption which according to him is pervasive in the entire sector.

Adamu also said that the present administration will work with state government to decentralise basic education system to the grass root level and also to revamp school feeding programme in primary schools.

“The core problems of education in the country vary from one level of education to another, the crisis of underfunding, which gave birth to a whole series of other problems such as poor infrastructure for teaching and learning, poor conditions of service for teachers and the menace of brain drain from our tertiary institutions”

“Also the crises of poor enrolment and access which has left millions of school age children roaming the streets and the crisis of regulation which has turned the entire education system into a jungle where everything goes, the system has been left unregulated, unsupervised and with no recours to ethics and professionalism” The Minister lamented.

While acknowledging the important role of the Civil Service, Mallam Adamu challenged the workers to interenalise the Change mantra while co-operating with him to successfully implement the Federal Government policies on Education.

” This is a period of change which must not only come from politicians but also Civil Service by this i would like you all to commit yourself to internalise the change mantra ,i must say that i need the help of you all as i have not been fully involved in Civil Service affairs in a long time”

The minister assured the officials of non interference in the implementation of the policies.

“An important part of the change that this administration intends to bring about is recognition and acceptance that while politicians decide policy,it is not their business to implement it,i hereby give assurance that i will never interfere”

Adamu added that he will run an open door policy that will give room for free interaction.

“I hereby solicit for the cooperation of all of you in order to enable us move this ministry forward and leave it better than we met it”
