Femi Fani-Kayode Speaks After Honouring Police Invitation

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has vowed not to relent in his criticisms after honouring police invitation.

Fani-Kayode, who made this comment after leaving the force headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, revealed that the police invited him over an article he wrote on “hegemony and terrorism”.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain commended the police for being professional but vowed not to relent in his criticisms.

His words: “Left the Inspector General of Police’s office after a cordial interview. The Police were courteous and professional,” he said in a statement.

“I was invited because of my essay titled ‘Five Useful Idiots and The Spirit Of The Accursed Slave’ which was about Fulani hegemony and terrorism together with other write-ups. No regrets. I will hit harder and write more.”

The Police had summoned Fani-Kayode over an allegation of conspiracy, criminal and inciting publication.

Fani-Kayode was summoned via a letter dated August 20, 2018, and signed by the Commissioner in charge of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit, Habu A. Sani.

In the letter titled, ‘Conspiracy, criminal defamation, inciting publication, injurious falsehood and conduct likely to cause breach of peace’, the police noted that the invitation was based purely on a fact-finding mission.

However, Fani-Kayode, in a letter dated August 27 by his lawyer, Kayode Ajulo & Co., stated that the police invitation letter appeared vague and ambiguous, noting that there was no mention of the complainants and the subject matter of the planned interrogation.

The former minister had asked the police to fix a new date because the invitation was sent on short notice. The force eventually agreed.
