Popular musician, Lanre Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan, has accused Nigerian music fans of pressurizing music artistes into churning out songs that are low-quality.

The talented singer decried the situation where the kind of music being recorded in the country cannot be played in the presence of children because of the messages contained in them and the kind of language used to convey the messages.

He also said musicians would have had no choice than to adjust if listeners reject the crap music currently being put out by the present crop of musicians.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, Sound Sultan said: “I feel music is a great tool that we should not misuse, if music is misused, it can tell a lot on the generation.

“I want to be able to play my music where my kids are, not tell them to cover their ears.

“You see those crap music and all those other things, I don’t know if it’s me that’s buying them or if it’s me that’s telling them to play it.

“There must be somebody telling people that they want to hear that thing.

“When there is clamour, where there is demand for something, then they will keep putting it upfront to their audience.

“They want to satisfy their audience, they don’t want to bore anybody with their airplay.

“So if there’s stuff like that going on, trust me, it’s a controlled market, somebody is doing something somewhere.

“So for me, I don’t really concentrate on pointing fingers, I just try to deafen your ears with my own sense of making music.’’

Furthermore, he stressed that musicians of nowadays do not put in the extra effort to see that their songs hit the masterpiece level.
