Nigerian rapper, Falz, has revealed the inspiration behind his latest single, ‘Yakubu’.

The song, which was released on March 30, criticizes the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its chairman, Mahmood Yakubu.

Falz, whose real name is Folarin Falana, explained that the lyrics of the song were based on real-life events and were aimed at revealing the truth about the elections without any fabrication.

In a recent interview with Arise TV, Falz stated that he and fellow rapper Vector were not making up scenarios that did not occur.

“We are telling you things as they happened,” he said.

Falz expressed his frustration with the violence and manipulation that allegedly marred the elections, calling it a “big mess”.

He added that the INEC chairman went ahead to declare a winner despite numerous cases of violence and manipulated results.

“There’s absolutely nothing I’m saying on this record or Vector is saying on this record that hasn’t occurred,” he emphasized.

“We are not fabricating facts, we are not making things up, we are not painting a scenario that did not occur. We are just revealing the truth.”

Falz also criticized the conduct of the presidential election, describing it as a sham. “In the dead of the night, everything was just a big mess,” he said.

The rapper lamented that Nigerians had gone out to vote but their efforts had been frustrated by the violence and manipulation that characterized the elections.
