The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the launch of a dedicated task force aimed at eradicating touting, extortion, and other illicit activities at Nigeria’s airports.

This initiative underscores FAAN’s commitment to enhancing passenger experience and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism.

In a statement released on Saturday, Olubunmi Kuku, FAAN’s Managing Director, expressed deep concern over the persistent harassment and extortion of passengers at various airports across the country. Kuku emphasized that the agency’s leadership has embarked on an extensive campaign to crack down on these illegal activities.

Henry Agbebire, FAAN’s Director of Special Duties, has been appointed to lead the initiative as the chairman of the newly formed task force. The task force is charged with enforcing discipline among airport staff and fostering a culture of professionalism at all levels.

“Mrs. Kuku has also declared her intention to personally engage with all government agencies operating at the airports to ensure compliance with the anti-touting and anti-extortion measures,” the statement read.

Kuku issued a stern warning to all airport personnel, including FAAN staff, stating that strict disciplinary actions would be enforced against anyone involved in illicit practices. She emphasized that the era of misconduct is over and highlighted the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards such behaviors.

In a move to expedite the legal process for prosecuting offenders, the FAAN MD announced plans to establish magistrate courts within international airports. These courts will facilitate swift judicial proceedings for those caught engaging in illegal activities.

To further enhance transparency and passenger satisfaction, FAAN will introduce dedicated phone lines and QR codes, enabling passengers to provide feedback on their airport experience. Additionally, all airport staff will be required to clearly display their ‘on-duty’ cards and name tags, ensuring easy identification and accountability.

Kuku reiterated the agency’s unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional service and ensuring a safe and secure environment for all passengers and airport users.
