Yunusa Dahiru, alias Yellow, the alleged abductor of 14-year-old Ese Oruru, standing trial at a Federal High Court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has not been able to meet his bail conditions.

He is remanded in Okaka Prisons in the state capital. Yunusa was granted a N3m bail by the court on Monday.

Lead counsel for Yunusa, Mr. Kayode Olaosebikan, confirmed on Saturday that Yunusa had yet to meet the bail conditions.

Olaosebikan said his client had remained in prison custody due to his inability to meet the conditions imposed by the judge.

“As of this moment, Yunusa has not met the bail conditions. We are having difficulties because of the conditions imposed. The judge demanded for civil servants and a traditional title holder who must be resident of the state. Most of them who are likely to have that are indigenes.

“However, most of the indigenes are biased against our client. So, it is difficult. Maybe this coming week, we are hopeful. There are some people we are talking to. Some of them too, who are ready to stand surety for our client do not have tax clearance certificates. So, a lot of things are militating against us,” the lawyer stated.

The trial judge, Justice H.A. Nganjiwa, had while ruling on the bail application on Monday said the suspect should be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail conditions.

The judge had said the sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court while one must be a civil servant of not less than level 12, while the second must be a title holder.

The judge further said that the sureties must provide tax clearance for the past three years.

Dahiru was on March 8 charged with abduction, kidnapping, unlawful carnal knowledge and sexual exploitation by the police.

Yunusa had pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

Nganjiwa adjourned the case till April 17 for ruling on the application of the prosecution to obtain the evidence of Ese in camera.
