Juventus midfielder, Emre Can have revealed what referee, Felix Brych, told him as a reason for sending fellow teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo, off during their side’s 2-0 win over Valencia in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Ronaldo was shown a straight red card by referee Brych during the first half of the encounter, following a coming-together with Jeison Murillo in an off-the-ball incident.

Can, however, said the referee told him that he gave Ronaldo red card because the 33-year-old pulled Murillo’s hair.

“The ref. told me that it was because of hair pulling,” Can was quoted by Manchester Evening News as saying when he was asked if the referee had explained why Ronaldo was given the marching order.

“We’re not women, we’re playing football,” he added.

“If you’re giving that as a red card, you can be sent off for any foul. One hundred percent, that is not a red card.”

Meanwhile, speaking after the match, Juventus coach, Max Allegri suggested that Ronaldo wouldn’t have been sent off if VAR had been in operation.

“VAR would’ve helped the referee in this decision,” Allegri said.

“Going down to 10 men in the Champions League for an incident like that is disappointing. We risked losing tonight with this and we’ll miss him for the next games too.

“He was disappointed, but it takes time to calm down. He must get over it, and get ready for Sunday[against Frosinone], even if they are situations that leave a bitter taste in the mouth.”

Ronaldo will now miss Juventus’ next game against Swiss side, Young Boys, after receiving his first-ever Champions League red card on Wednesday.
