Yunusa Muhammad Danyaya, the Emir of Ningi and a first-class traditional ruler in Bauchi State, has died at the age of 88.

The revered leader died on Sunday, leaving behind a legacy that spans nearly half a century on the throne.

Danyaya ascended to the throne in 1978 and served the Ningi Emirate for an impressive 46 years. His reign was marked by significant contributions to the development of his community and the preservation of its cultural heritage.

In a statement mourning the late Emir, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed expressed profound sorrow and praised Danyaya’s enduring impact on the people of Bauchi. The governor’s media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, conveyed the governor’s sentiments in a public statement.

“In this moment of grief, the Bauchi State Government, led by His Excellency, Governor Bala Mohammed, extends its deepest condolences to the immediate family of the late Emir, the Ningi Emirate Council, and the entire people of Bauchi State,” the statement read. “We mourn with you in this great loss and pray that Almighty Allah grants the departed soul eternal peace in Jannatul Firdaus. May Allah also grant his family, the people of Ningi, and all those affected by this loss the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.”

Governor Mohammed further emphasized the Emir’s significance, stating, “His Royal Highness will be remembered as a father to all, a pillar of strength, and a beacon of light in our state. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Ameen.”

The late Emir’s educational background included a one-year course in public administration at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, which he completed between 1956 and 1957. He furthered his education at the same institution, obtaining a diploma in public administration from 1960 to 1962.
