Leader of Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky would be prosecuted over the recent clash between his members and men of Nigerian Army which led to the death of over 60 people in Zaria, Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai has stated.

El-Rufai said all the parties involved in the incident will be weighed by the constitution and anyone found culpable will be prosecuted accordingly. He added that a Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the state government would examine the remote and immediate causes of Zaria incident.

El-rufai spoke while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after the Chairman of Northern States Governors Forum, Governor Kashim Shettima, read a communiqué issued after an emergency meeting aimed at proffering solutions to upheavals in the region especially, that of Zaria, Kaduna State.

“The Governors frowned at arbitrary blockage of highways through unauthorized processions causing inconveniences to other citizens. Henceforth, processions must necessarily be with Police permit and protection as prescribed by the law,” the communique said in part.

“NSGF endorsed all the step taken so far by the Kaduna State Governor to contain the situation and assure citizens of its readiness to maintain law and order while respecting the constitutional rights of citizens to practice their faith in a manner devoid of infringing the rights of others,” it added.
