The economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested Mr. Alison Amaechina Madueke, husband of ex-petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, SaharaReporters is reporting.

The online platform said Mr. Madueke was arrested Wednesday morning in Abuja.

The arrest, according to what the medium said from an EFCC source, was in connection of illegally laundering more than $600,000 through his personal accounts.

He was however released on administrative bail, but his passport was seized and placed under caution, the source is quoted saying.

“Mr. Madueke was arrested this morning [in Abuja] and released on administrative bail.”

The EFCC also seized Mr. Madueke’s passport and placed him under caution.

The arrest is the latest development in an ongoing global investigation into the financial activity of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Maduke, who was arrested last year in London for financial crimes.

Mrs. Madueke was at the helm of the petroleum industry in Nigeria during a time of unprecedented theft, according to analysts.
