A fire broke out early Friday morning at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road, in the Ogba area of Lagos State.

Okay.ng gathered that the incident, which occurred around 2:20 a.m., affected part of a two-storey building within the quarters.

The fire specifically engulfed one of the two-bedroom apartments in Flat 5, located in Block 21, a two-winged, three-story building housing 16 two-bedroom flats.

A preliminary investigation by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical surge in the children’s room of the affected flat.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, confirmed that the fire completely destroyed the children’s bedroom, resulting in the loss of properties worth millions of naira.

“The prompt and coordinated efforts of the Agency’s LRT, NPF, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service ensured the fire was contained and extinguished quickly,” Oke-Osanyitolu stated.

He also confirmed that, “Fortunately, there was no loss of life and no injuries sustained in the incident.”

Oke-Osanyitolu further mentioned that the victims and other occupants of the building were educated on the proper use of electrical appliances to prevent future occurrences.
