In 2013, Nigerian music duo P-Square, made up of the Okoye brothers (Peter and Paul), teamed up with Akon for the remix of their hit single ‘Chop My Money’. Originally released in 2011 as part of their album The Invasion, the song quickly became a fan favorite across Africa and beyond, especially with its infectious hook and upbeat Afropop vibe.
The original version of ‘Chop My Money’ featured Nigerian artist May D, who at the time was signed to Square Records, the record label owned by the Okoye brothers. May D’s contribution gave the track an extra layer of energy and flair that contributed to its widespread success. However, when Akon, the Senegalese-American superstar, jumped on the remix, the track reached new heights.
