The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in Abuja, Nigeria, announced on Monday that a minor fire had broken out on the second floor of the headquarters building. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

The Director of Defence Information, Major General Jimmy Akpor, released a statement saying that the incident was quickly brought under control thanks to the combined efforts of military and Federal Fire Service personnel. “Normalcy has returned,” Akpor said.

An investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched. In the meantime, the DHQ has assured the public that all necessary precautions are being taken to prevent any further incidents.

“We are taking this matter very seriously and are working diligently to determine the cause of the fire,” Akpor said. “In the meantime, we want to assure the public that the DHQ remains fully operational and that the safety of our personnel and the public is our top priority.”

Akpor also thanked the Federal Fire Service and the general public for their support during the incident. “We are grateful for the swift response of the Federal Fire Service and the support of the public during this difficult time,” he said. “Their cooperation and goodwill are greatly appreciated.”

The DHQ is the central command center for the Nigerian Armed Forces and is responsible for the overall management and coordination of the country’s military operations.
