Datti Baba-Ahmed Urges Tinubu to Step Aside in 2027, Says Nigerians Will Demand True Democracy

Former Labour Party Vice Presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has urged President Bola Tinubu to forgo any plans to run for re-election in 2027, insisting that his time in leadership is over.

Baba-Ahmed made the statement during an interview on Arise Television, where he emphasized that the Nigerian people will push for genuine democratic governance in the next general elections.

“I expect Tinubu to throw in the towel. If he is that smart a politician, I expect him to be. You know that I always tell the truth. For someone to have organised in 2007, culminating in his electoral heist in 2023, that person must be super smart, and I am not praising him at all.”

If he’s truly as intelligent as people say, then all indications suggest he will be defeated in 2027. There are two strong contenders I won’t name for now, but they pose a serious threat to Tinubu’s re-election. The APC has consistently shown itself to be deceptive—Buhari failed to tackle corruption or deliver security, and Tinubu is unlikely to do any better.

“Looking ahead, I foresee the APC losing the next election, as Nigerians will begin to come together with a renewed sense of purpose,” he said.

People like me will stand up and say—if you can’t uphold true democratic values, then leadership in Nigeria isn’t for you. For the first time, citizens will take a firm stand against bad governance. That’s when real healing will begin—when we start to rebuild, unite, and see one another as brothers and sisters. Their time is over.
