Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced that his administration has completed the construction of approximately 1,000 kilometers of roads since assuming office in 2019.

He made this statement on Tuesday during the official commissioning of the 3.12-kilometer Oke-Erinja-Ilobi road in Yewa South Local Government Area.

During the event, Governor Abiodun highlighted the critical role of rural infrastructure in advancing the state’s agricultural sector.

He pointed out that Ogun State has 12,000 out of its 17,000 square kilometers dedicated to arable land, emphasizing the need to improve road connectivity between farming communities and urban centers to enhance food security and economic development.

“Ogun State is about 17,000 square kilometers, out of which 12,000 square kilometers of land is arable, and our people are farmers.”

Speaking on the importance of the newly inaugurated road, the governor acknowledged the contributions of Oke-Erinja and Ilobi communities to food production in the state.

He assured residents that the road project would be extended to Ilobi, given the strong ties between the two communities.

Beyond the Oke-Erinja-Ilobi road, Governor Abiodun disclosed plans to commence the construction of the 17-kilometer Sango-Ijoko-Akute road within the week.

“The Ilobi and Oke-Erinja areas are among our food baskets in the state, and today we have prioritized the construction of their roads.”

“It was not intentional to stop the road at Oke-Erinja. I have heard many times that the Erinja and Ilobi people are like Siamese twins, and I will not separate them.”

“So, let me assure you, we will complete that road to Ilobi; we will ensure the road ends at Ilobi,” he said

The project is expected to strengthen transportation links between Ogun West, Ogun Central, and Lagos State, easing the movement of residents and fostering economic activities.

Providing updates on other key road projects, the governor mentioned the Agbara-Atan-Lusada road, where one phase has already been completed.

Additionally, he revealed an upcoming inspection of the Interchange-Papalanto-Obelle road with business mogul Alhaji Aliko Dangote, as part of efforts to fast-track its completion under a tax credit scheme.

“At the moment, we are reconstructing the Ota-Ifo-Abeokuta road, which will also be of immense benefit to Ogun West. The Inter-Change-Papalanto-Obelle road is also under construction; it is a great arterial road that serves as the West-East connector of our state.”

“Very soon, I am going to inspect that road with Alhaji Dangote. I have invited him to come and see how well or how not so well the road is progressing. We have completed one side of the Agbara-Atan-Lusada road; that was a road nobody believed we would reconstruct.”

“Today, one section of that road has been completed from beginning to end, so we can travel from Agbara to Atan-Lusada without the usual tears. We’ve now moved to the other side, and by the grace of God, we will complete that other section. That is a major road in Ogun West,” he said.

Governor Abiodun expressed gratitude to traditional leaders, community members, and stakeholders for their support, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving the state’s infrastructure.

He reiterated that road development remains a priority to ensure sustainable growth across all regions of Ogun State.

Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, also spoke at the event, stating that the newly constructed road would not only enhance local transportation but also provide direct access to the Nigeria Police Training College, thereby contributing to security and development in the area.
