Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has been ordered to be remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by the Ikeja Division of the High Court in Lagos State.

The court, presided over by Justice Rahman Oshodi, directed that Emefiele be remanded until the next adjourned date, Thursday, April 11, when a ruling on his bail application will be delivered.

Emefiele, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him, appeared in court alongside his co-defendant, Henry Omoile. While Emefiele was ordered to be remanded in EFCC custody, Omoile was directed to be remanded at the Ikoyi Prison until the court’s ruling on his bail application on Thursday.

The bail applications for both defendants were presented by their counsel, AbdulHakeem Labi-Lawal, who urged the court to grant Emefiele bail on self-recognizance or on the most liberal terms pending the determination of the case. Labi-Lawal also sought liberal bail terms for the second defendant.

Rotimi Oyedepo, Senior Advocate of Nigeria representing the EFCC, did not oppose the bail request. He urged the court to exercise discretion in granting bail to the defendants.
