The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has issued an order prohibiting the Department of State Security Services, the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General of the Federation, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from arresting and detaining the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, on accusations of terrorism and other offenses.

The order was made during the ruling of a suit filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the Forum for Accountability and Good Leadership.

The judge stated that the DSS “acted improperly and unlawfully in inciting President Muhammadu Buhari against Mr. Godwin Emefiele in regards to the performance of his statutory duty involving the issuance of monetary policies and directives in the interest of national security and the economy.”

The court also granted a perpetual injunction order prohibiting the DSS, the Inspector General of Police, and the Attorney General of the Federation, as well as their agents and officers, from arresting, interrogating, or detaining Emefiele in relation to any economic matters or policy decisions in Nigeria.

The court has set an expedited hearing for the case and has shortened the time allowed for both the respondents and the applicant.
