Conte Defends His Three Late Substitutions Against Liverpool

The Italian has backed his decision of waiting
till late before making his substitutions in
their 2-1 defeat to the Reds on Friday
Manager Antonio Conte has justified his
actions of making three late substitutions in
their 2-1 loss to Liverpool at the Stamford
Bridge on Friday.

The Italian tactician defended his introduction
of Moses, Pedro and Fabregas with just seven minutes left to play with his side still trailing the Reds.

“In the second half we started with the same
players and you saw another game, with great
intensity, Conte told Chelsea website.

“We scored the goal and created chances so
for this reason I waited to make the
substitutions. In the last 10 minutes I changed three players to try to give freshness and change the result,

“In that moment I had to decide whether or
not to put two wingers in. I wanted to change
a midfielder to put Fabregas on but it could
have been Batshuayi and not either Moses
or Pedro. I needed to put Hazard closer to
Diego,” he concluded.

Dejan Lovren and Jordan Henderson gave
Jurgen Klopp’s side a 2-0 lead in the first half
before Diego Costa scored Chelsea’s only goal
in the second half.
