The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has conducted a two-day strategic session for members of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) in preparation for their first meeting under the leadership of Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, the newly appointed Governor.

The upcoming MPC meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday, February 26, and Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

Confirming this on Friday in Abuja, the Acting Director of the Corporate Communications Department, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, disclosed that the meeting aimed to facilitate brainstorming and in-depth discussions about the committee’s objectives. The focus areas during the retreat included deliberations on a strategic plan to bring about necessary improvements in the monetary policy transmission mechanism.

Mrs. Ali highlighted that the sessions were conducted by former MPC members, monetary policy communication specialists from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and Directors of critical departments involved in the MPC process.

“The valuable insights gained from these discussions will significantly contribute towards the robustness of the forthcoming MPC meetings,” she noted.

Meanwhile, the CBN has published a calendar of meetings for the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) in 2024 on its website. The meetings are scheduled for February, March, May, July, September, and November 2024.
