The Management of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has disclosed an official increase in school fees for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

This development coincides with the approval of the Students’ Loan Bill by the country, which grants students the opportunity to borrow money for their education and repay it two years after completing their studies.

In an official statement made available to Okay.ng, and released by the acting Registrar of the university, Amina Umar Abdullahi, it was revealed that the decision to raise the fees was made during the 405th meeting of the University’s Senate Committee on Monday.

The fee increment applies to various aspects, including central registration, administrative charges, and hostel maintenance fees for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The new fee structure outlines the specific amounts that students from different faculties and programs will be required to pay. For instance, undergraduate students in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences (MBBS) and Dentistry will face higher fees, with returning students expected to pay N160,000, while fresh students will pay N170,000. Similarly, Nursing students will now pay N220,500 for fresh students and N197,500 for returning students. As for education courses, fresh students will pay between N137,500 and N138,500, while returning students will pay between N132,500 and N138,500, depending on their specific course.

At the lower end of the fee scale are students in the faculties of Arts and Islamic Studies, Law, Management Sciences, and Social Sciences. Returning students in these faculties will pay N97,000, while fresh students will pay N105,000. For students in Computer Science, Communications, Earth and Environmental Sciences, the fees for returning students will be N100,000, and fresh students will pay N110,000.

In addition to the tuition fees, the university has also specified accommodation costs. Undergraduate students without beds and mattresses will pay N37,590 for hostel accommodation, while female students with beds and mattresses will pay N80,090, and male students with beds and mattresses will pay N57,590.

The statement further disclosed that inter-university transfers will incur a cost of N150,000, and the transfer application form will now be priced at N20,000. Additionally, the fees for undergraduate certificates will be N12,000, while postgraduate students pursuing an MSC degree will pay N20,000, and those pursuing a PhD will pay N25,000 for their certificates.
