A report filed by a news website disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the presidential liaison officer (PLO), Nura Rimi, sources close to the State House informed this particular news website on Saturday, October 10.

The official announcement by the presidency is still awaited at the time of filing the present report, as the presidential the special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, could not be reached for comments.

Nura Rimi was appointed to the post about five months ago, before Buhari’s inauguration. The PLO was included into the official delegation during both visits of the president to the USA, in July and in September.

He played an important role in organising most of the meetings President Buhari had during the 70th United Nations General Assembly in New York. However, a crucial meeting on Boko Haram issues has been missed by the Nigerian leader.

Rimi is a veteran civil servant. He had served in high positions, such as the Nigerian Embassy in the USA. The embattled PLO was a protocol officer in Aso Rock for President Umaru Yar’Adua.

At the times of Goodluck Jonathan’s administration Rimi served as the chief protocol officer. He was appointed to the Nigerian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the UAE, before the March 28 presidential election.

This report is unconfirmed, updates would be added soon.
