Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to take over the funding of the 22 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in the state.

The governor, who spoke while breaking Ramadan fast at the Yerwa Girls College IDP camp in Maiduguri, explained that the funding began few weeks after Buhari resumed office.

Represented by Mallam Isa Gusau, his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Shettima noted that the state had already started feeling the impacts of Buhari’s administration.

“Since Buhari took over affairs at the Presidency he has been working silently.

“Part of the work is that the Federal Government has now taken over most responsibilities in funding activities in the 22 IDP camps in Maiduguri.

“The state government fully shouldered the responsibilities under former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

“Since 2013 when we established IDP camps in Biu for the displaced people of Damboa, up till few days ago, the state government was solely bearing the burden of funding the camps”, he said.

According to him, with the emergence of Buhari as president, the Federal Government, through the National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA,) has taken over so many responsibilities in the camps.

The governor assured that the state government would begin the reconstruction of communities destroyed by the insurgents after the Ramadan fast.
