The Brickhall School in Abuja has announced a one-week closure to mourn the death of four-year-old pupil, Miguel Ovoke, who died after choking on a piece of meat while feeding at school. The school expressed regret over its failure to save Miguel despite its efforts.

According to a medical report, Miguel was declared dead at Excel Specialist Hospital due to aspiration of meat while feeding at school. The report stated that all efforts to resuscitate him failed, and he was “Brought in Dead”.

The school management and Parents Teacher’s Forum have extended their condolences to Miguel’s family, describing the incident as a “heart-wrenching event”. The school had suspended classes for over a week to allow the community to mourn and reflect on the loss.

The management urged everyone connected to the tragedy to respect Miguel’s memory with dignity and peace, allowing medical professionals and law enforcement agencies to conclude the autopsy.
