In a shocking move, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land housing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat in Abuja. The shocking decision, announced on March 13, 2025, comes after the opposition party failed to pay ground rents for an astonishing 20 years, despite repeated warnings.

The revocation letter, signed by FCT Director of Land Administration Chijioke Nwankwoeze, revealed that the PDP had ignored multiple public notices since 2023, urging allottees to settle outstanding dues. The party’s failure to pay rents from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025, was deemed a blatant violation of the Land Use Act.

With immediate effect, the FCTA has taken possession of the property, leaving the PDP’s future in its Abuja headquarters in jeopardy. This bold action sends a clear message: no one is above the law, not even a major political party.

The PDP has yet to respond, but this unprecedented move is sure to send shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape. Will the party pay up, or will it lose its iconic secretariat forever?
