Nigerian wrestling sensation, Blessing Oborududu, has advanced to the semifinals of the Women’s Freestyle 68kg category at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The 35-year-old, known for her dominance in African wrestling, secured her spot by defeating French wrestler Koumba Larroque with a decisive 6-2 victory at the Champ-de-Mars Arena on Monday.

Oborududu, a 15-time African champion, has already etched her name in history by winning Nigeria’s only silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She is now aiming for another podium finish in the 68kg class, showcasing her exceptional skills and determination.

Next on her path is a semifinal clash with Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan, scheduled for 8 p.m. The matchup promises to be intense, as Oborududu, ranked 6th in the world, faces Zhumanazarova, an Olympic bronze medalist currently ranked 16th.

The Nigerian wrestler’s journey to the semifinals comes after a stellar performance at the 2024 Seniors African and Oceania OG Qualifier, where she clinched the top spot. With her advancement to the semifinals, Oborududu is already guaranteed a medal at the Paris Olympic Games.
