Convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans, has opted for a plea bargain in his ongoing trial at the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja. Evans, who is facing charges of attempted murder, alongside his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, who is facing charges of murder and attempted kidnapping, approached the court for a settlement.

The prosecution counsel, Mr. Yusuf Sule, informed the court that the plea bargain option was being considered by the Attorney-General of Lagos State, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN). The duo will be re-arraigned on an amended five-count charge bordering on murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit felony, including kidnapping and attempted murder.

Evans and his co-defendant were initially arraigned in 2017 for kidnapping and murder. The case has been ongoing since then, with the prosecution presenting several witnesses and evidence. The plea bargain option is a new development in the case, and it remains to be seen how it will affect the outcome of the trial.

The court has adjourned the case until further notice, pending the outcome of the plea bargain negotiations. If the plea bargain is successful, Evans and his co-defendant may face reduced sentences or alternative punishments. However, if the negotiations fail, the trial will continue, and the duo will face the full weight of the law.
