Benue State Governor Signs N225.7bn 2024 Appropriation Bill into Law

Hyacinth Alia, the Governor of Benue State, has officially signed the state’s 2024 appropriation bill into law. The signing ceremony took place on Friday at the Old Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House.

Tersoo Kula, the Press Secretary to the Governor, announced the signing in a statement, noting that the governor described the occasion as a crucial step towards the progress and prosperity of Benue State.

The appropriation bill, titled “Budget for Infrastructural Development, Job Creation, and Poverty Alleviation,” has a total estimate of N225.7 billion. Governor Alia provided a breakdown, revealing that the recurrent expenditure is N110.5 billion, representing 48.9% of the estimate, while the capital head stands at N115.2 billion, constituting 51.1% of the budget. The deficit financing of the budget is N34.6 billion, representing 15.3% of the estimate.

Governor Alia emphasized that the budget serves as a roadmap for the future prosperity of Benue, outlining plans for substantial investment in the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, and critical infrastructure. He expressed confidence that the budget would benefit job seekers and entrepreneurs in the state.

“This budget is a beacon of hope for job seekers and aspiring entrepreneurs. We understand the importance of job creation in fostering a dynamic and resilient economy,” Alia stated.

The governor highlighted the administration’s commitment to stimulating economic activities through resource allocation to various sectors. He emphasized the significance of public works projects, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, agriculture, and investments in emerging industries for creating a conducive environment for job growth.

“Poverty alleviation remains at the forefront of our agenda,” Alia affirmed.

Governor Alia expressed appreciation to the members of the Benue House of Assembly for their efforts in ensuring the smooth passage of the budget.

He called on the residents of the state to support his administration’s vision for the development of Benue, stating, “Together, we can build a future that is characterized by prosperity, inclusivity, and shared success.”
