At least two worshippers were killed in a brutal attack during Driday prayers at Anguwar Makera in the Kwasakwasa Community of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

Okay.ng learnt that the incident occurred around 2 pm.

Community leader Hudu Kwasakwasa confirmed the devastating attack, stating that armed bandits indiscriminately opened fire on worshippers at the Juma’at Mosque in Angwar Makera.

The victims, part of a larger congregation, were fatally shot while in the midst of prayer. The assailants also abducted several individuals before fleeing the scene.

The targeted worshippers were in the midst of the second raka’at of the salat when the attackers struck, prompting others to flee for their lives. Kwasakwasa revealed that this assault follows a recent abduction of nine individuals in the neighboring community of Angwar Kanawa.

Expressing dismay at the recurring attacks, Kwasakwasa appealed for urgent intervention from relevant authorities, emphasizing the impunity with which bandits continue to terrorize communities in the area.

The tragic incident occurred less than 24 hours after the abduction of over 287 students in Chikun Local Government Area, further underscoring the escalating insecurity in the region.

As of reporting, neither the State Government nor the Police Command has issued a response to the mosque attack.
