Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has voiced his admiration for Raye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who recently faced threats after releasing a video critical of the current Nigerian administration.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Abubakar praised the young woman’s courage and called for her to receive support rather than hostility.

“Raye embodies the spirit of a new generation of women who champion the ideals of popular participation and unwavering advocacy in the political sphere,” Abubakar stated.

His words reflect his acknowledgment of Raye’s bravery in speaking out against perceived flaws in governance, a stance that has reportedly drawn backlash.

The former presidential candidate continued to express his admiration for Raye’s determination and insight, noting her resilience in the face of opposition.

“I deeply admire her boldness and wisdom—her fearless resolve to speak truth to power, undeterred by the weight of opposition,” he wrote. His comments suggest that Raye’s actions are emblematic of a broader movement of young Nigerians advocating for better governance.

Drawing parallels between Raye and past female icons in Nigeria’s political history, Abubakar noted, “She follows in the footsteps of formidable trailblazers like Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, Margaret Ekpo and countless other women who have stood resolute in defense of the common good.”

By comparing her to these historical figures, he placed Raye’s efforts within a tradition of women fighting for social justice and political integrity.

Abubakar also emphasized the importance of offering encouragement and recognition to young advocates like Raye, rather than subjecting them to intimidation or rejection.

“Rather than being met with hostility, Raye deserves encouragement and support,” he stated, stressing the need for a more accepting and supportive environment for youth activism.

Further underscoring his message, Abubakar referred to Raye as a symbol of the nation’s youth and their readiness to take on leadership roles. “She is a shining emblem of the Nigerian youth—a testament to the long-held promise that the leaders of tomorrow are already among us, ready to shape a better future,” he concluded.
