The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has decided to reconsider its recent threat to embark on a nationwide strike over pending labor-related issues with the Federal Government. This decision comes after a closed-door meeting between ASUU officials, led by President Prof. Emmanuel Osodoke, and Federal Government representatives, including Ministers of Education Prof. Tahir Mamman and Dr. Tanko Sununu, in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to Prof. Osodoke, the union has temporarily halted the planned strike to allow for further consultations with relevant stakeholders. He stated that they had discussions on all the issues presented to the government and received responses from government officials. The union will now take the details back to their members to decide on the next course of action.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting, noting that the union understood that some of their demands are beyond the purview of the Federal Ministry of Education. He added that consultations will continue on these issues, which require collaboration with other ministries.
