In the early hours of Monday, a group of heavily armed kidnappers stormed Grow Homes Estate located in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, Abuja’s largest suburban town. The attackers held residents hostage for more than an hour, terrorizing the community between midnight and 1:30 a.m.

A resident who witnessed the harrowing event recounted seeing a man and a woman being abducted by the kidnappers. By dawn, the woman was found within the estate, reportedly released by her captors for reasons that remain unclear. The exact number of those kidnapped is still unknown.

“The incident happened around 12 a.m. Those guys were well-armed, and they overpowered the local vigilance team,” the resident said. “The police came at about 1 a.m., and there was a fierce exchange of gunfire for about 30 minutes.”

Residents have appealed to the government to improve road infrastructure to allow quicker access for security patrols. “We are begging the government to fix this road for easy access for security patrol vehicles. We also beg the police and, of course, the FCT Administration to help site a station here for rapid response,” the resident added.
