The Anambra State Government has imposed a ban on the use of public school premises for social events, including weddings, shows, and other entertainment activities.

The announcement was made on Saturday by the State’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, through a statement signed by Dr. Ifeoma Agbaizu, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education.

According to Chuma-Udeh, the decision was taken to protect school infrastructure from potential damage caused by such events.

“This is a warning to all principals and head teachers to desist from using school premises as a commercial venture,” the statement read. “Henceforth, any principal or primary school head teacher who indulges in such acts will be severely dealt with.”

The commissioner emphasized that the directive is aimed at safeguarding the integrity of school environments and ensuring that they are used solely for educational purposes.

Chuma-Udeh has directed the Chairmen of the Post Primary Schools Services Commission and the State Universal Basic Education Board to ensure that the information is disseminated to all school principals and head teachers in the state. She also instructed school heads to strictly adhere to the new policy.
