Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi is set to sign a new contract with Arsenal after agreeing to terms on an improved deal.

The 22-year-old came through the Gunners’ academy and was handed his first-team debut by Arsene Wenger nearly three years ago.

Lazio have expressed an interest in signing Iwobi this summer, but the Nigeria international is on the verge of committing his future to Arsenal.

According to the Daily Mirror, Iwobi will sign a new deal with Arsenal which will run until 2022. The midfielder has less than two years on his current contract with the Gunners.

The report also claims that Arsenal manager Unai Emery views Iwobi as a ‘key’ part of his plans for the future.

It’s understood that Iwobi and Arsenal have been in talks over a new contract since the end of last season.

After playing for Nigeria at the World Cup this summer, Iwobi has missed the beginning of Arsenal’s pre-season.

But the midfielder linked up with Arsenal’s squad on Sunday as they travelled to Singapore for the start of their pre-season tour.

Arsenal will play Atletico Madrid on Thursday before facing Paris Saint Germain on Saturday.
