Senator Godswill Akpabio has emerged as the 10th President of the Senate, defeating Senator Abdulaziz Yari.

The lawmakers-elect cast their votes in anticipation of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, marking a significant milestone in the country’s political landscape.

The nomination process commenced with Senator Ali Ndume putting forth Senator Godswill Akpabio’s name, accompanied by a comprehensive reading of the former Akwa Ibom governor’s impressive biography.

Senator Akpabio’s extensive experience and accomplishments garnered the attention and support of his fellow lawmakers.

Senator Olamilekan Solomon Yayi, representing Ogun state, promptly seconded Akpabio’s nomination, acknowledging his capabilities and contributions to public service.

Simultaneously, Senator Ishaku Abbo nominated Senator Abdul Aziz Yari for the prestigious role of Senate President.
