Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, CFR, has been appointed as the Non-Executive Chairman of Access Holdings Plc, succeeding Mr. Abubakar Jimoh.

His return to the helm follows the unfortunate passing of Dr. Herbert Wigwe, the former Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings.

Aig-Imoukhuede brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise, particularly in investment banking, making him an invaluable addition to the leadership team.

  1. Birth and Education: Born on September 24, 1966, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Aig-Imoukhuede hails from Sabongida-Ora, Edo State. He obtained his LLB degree in Law from the University of Benin, Edo State, at the age of 19 in 1986 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987.
  2. Trium MBA: He holds a Trium MBA, awarded jointly by the London School of Economics, New York University, and HEC Paris.
  3. Harvard Business School: In 2000, he attended a three-month Executive Management Programme course at Harvard Business School.
  4. Early Career: Aig-Imoukhuede commenced his career as a lawyer at Continental Merchant Bank during his NYSC year in 1988.
  5. Guaranty Trust Bank Plc: He joined Guaranty Trust Bank Plc in December 1991, where he served until his resignation as Executive Director in March 2002.
  6. Acquisition of Access Bank: Aig-Imoukhuede led the 2002 acquisition of Access Bank, transforming it from a fringe regional player into a major financial institution.
  7. Leadership at Access Bank: He served as the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank until December 2013.
  8. Retirement: Aig-Imoukhuede retired as President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2017 but continues to serve on the National Council as an ex-officio member.
  9. Board Memberships: He has held various board positions, including Non-Executive Director of Africa Finance Corporation and Chairman of Associated Discount House Limited.
  10. Entrepreneurship: In 2015, he founded Coronation Capital Limited and has spearheaded the growth of the Coronation Ecosystem.
  11. Digitalization Initiatives: Aig-Imoukhuede collaborated with the Office of the Head of the Nigerian Civil Service in 2021 to digitalize work processes and public service delivery.
  12. Recognition: He served as President of The Nigerian Stock Exchange and received numerous accolades, including the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) in 2011.
  13. Ernst & Young Awards: Aig-Imoukhuede was inaugurated into the Ernst and Young World Entrepreneurs Hall of Fame and named the Ernst & Young West Africa Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011.
  14. African Banker of the Year: He was recognized as the African Banker of the Year by African Banker Magazine in 2013.
  15. Academic Affiliations: He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Science and serves on the International Advisory Board of Oxford University’s Blavatnik School of Government.
  16. Honorary Fellow: Aig-Imoukhuede is an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and received an honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) from Olabisi Onabanjo University in 2018.
  17. Philanthropy: He is the founder and chairman of the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, dedicated to promoting good governance in Africa and providing scholarships for African students.
  18. Global Health Advocacy: Aig-Imoukhuede serves as the first African Co-Chairman of the Global Business Coalition on Health and Chairman of Friends of the Global Fund – Africa.
  19. Donations to the Global Fund: He made a significant contribution of $1 million to the Global Fund and continues to support the ‘Gift from Africa’ campaign.
  20. ABCHealth Chairman: Aig-Imoukhuede currently chairs ABCHealth, a regional non-profit established by the Aliko Dangote Foundation and GBCHealth.
