A 32-year-old man, Michael Okon, on Friday confessed to defiling a 4-year-old girl in Lagos.

Oko confessed before Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Ipaye Nwachukwu of a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused committed the offence on February 2 at 8, Adepoju Street, Iyana-Ipaja, area of the state.

She said the accused, who resides in the same compound with the victim, took her to a dark corner in the compound and defiled her, but a neighbour trailed him and caught him in the act.

”The offence contravened section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011,” the prosecutor added.

The accused person pleaded guilty to the offence.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate said since the accused had pleaded guilty to the charge, the court had no choice than to sentence him.

Nwachukwu adjourned the matter till May 22 for facts and sentence.
